Founders Dean Vella and Stuart Beechen are putting Aktiv Brands on the market after 25 years running the business.

The pair launched the retail food business in Queensland with Bucking Bull Grill & Roast in 1999. They acquired WA-based Skewerz Kebabz in 2010. Their portfolio had also included at various points S7ven Gourmet Takeaway and The Kebab Co.

Aktiv Brands has 12 franchised and six corporate-owned stores across Western Australia and Queensland.

Vella told Franchise Executives the pair had stepped back from the day-to-day running of the business nearly seven years ago.

“The decision to move on wasn’t made lightly. Aktiv Brands has been a huge part of our lives, but we believe the timing is right for someone new to take the reins and lead the business into its next phase of growth.

“The foundations are strong, and there’s significant opportunity for expansion — particularly into new markets such as New South Wales and Victoria, which we’ve deliberately held off on to maintain focus and operational strength in Queensland and Western Australia,” Vella said.

“Our growth has always been measured and strategic. We’ve prioritised franchisee success and brand integrity over rapid expansion, which has helped us build a stable and sustainable network. That said, there’s enormous potential for a new owner to scale the business further, especially with the systems and brand equity already in place.”
