Collins Foods has acquired a further eight KFC restaurants in Germany, and has committed to open between 45 and 90 restaurants over the next four years.

Xavier Simonet, MD and CEO at Collins Foods, said there is a significant growth opportunity in the German market, and expansion will be “in a disciplined manner”.

“The KFC brand has substantial potential in Germany with approximately a fifth of the store footprint of the largest competitor, McDonald’s. Despite lower restaurant density, KFC enjoys strong brand awareness and consumer appeal in Germany, supporting a compelling opportunity to expand our market presence,” Simonet said.

“Pleasingly, the acquisition of a high-quality KFC portfolio in Bavaria, centred around Munich, will provide us with a platform to expand in one of Germany’s most populated and wealthiest states. These restaurants will bring us immediate scale and, importantly, create a strong foundation for accelerated development,” he said.

The acquisition is expected to be completed by May/June 2026.

Collins Foods also signed a revised corporate franchise agreement for the Netherlands with KFC brand owner Yum Brands. The agreement extends Collins Foods’ restaurant operations by three years to 2029.

The marketing team will move from Collins Foods to Yum Brands in January 2027 when Yum Brands takes over the marketing operations.

In September 2025 Collins Foods reported a dip in sales in its European markets; its latest trading update shows same store sales growth YTD of 4.5 per cent in Germany, and 0.1 per cent in the Netherlands.
