Sandwich business DannyBoys is looking to sign up its first franchise store this year as part of a growth plan to add three greenfield sites to the business.
Founder and director Daniel McKennariey told Inside Franchise Business Executive there is plenty of interest from potential buyers in both greenfield sites and the two corporate outlets at Kelvin Grove and Brendale.
Sales at the Brendale, Moreton Bay store rocketed through the pandemic.
“We were quite lucky, Brendale sales doubled through Covid,” McKennariey said.
The light industrial location retained customers from local small businesses who continued to work and could keep staff on through JobKeeper.
“We target office workers and tradies in industrial areas. There’s a lunch rush, and then customers are coming in to early dinner.”
However the Kelvin Grove flagship is next to the Queensland University of Technology, and suffered a fall in sales without the student numbers. McKennariey reports sales are now back on track.
Food for the existing two sites is handled by a production facility which McKennariey says produces 90 per cent of the menu.
“We do this to have consistency and it can save lots of costs.”
The DannyBoys Rockstar Sandwiches business concept launched a decade ago, and McKennariey announced the franchise offer last year with an initial goal of opening five stores.
After a static 2020, he is now back on track and geared up for growth.
Immediate expansion will be in the Brisbane/Gold Coast region. McKennariey has mapped out a number of key territories such as Northlakes, Newstead, Tenerife and Chermside.
