Grill’d is mixing Melbourne history with its own brand of cheekiness in the chain’s new mega restaurant, which opens on Swanston Street, on Thursday, 5 February 2026.

The two-level restaurant caters for fast orders and casual dining. The street-level space provides kiosk ordering and a compact outdoor seating for a quick bite.

Downstairs, Grill’d has transformed a basement that served as a World War 11 club for servicemen and women, nicknamed The Dug Out, into a moody dining space.

The room seats 170, and mixes original brickwork, heritage features and warm lighting to create a cosy vibe. And for the first time Grill’d has included a private dining room that fits up to 70 guests.

Founder Simon Crowe said “Melbourne is our home and my passion, so opening our biggest restaurant in such an iconic, heritage-listed building is very exciting. We’ve created a space that’s welcoming and fun.”

To celebrate the launch, Grill’d is giving the first 754 customers a free burger, referencing the brand’s first restaurant at 754 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn.
