Roselands Shopping Centre in suburban Sydney will receive a $90 million transformation care of co-owner Vicinity Centres, with construction commencing this month.
Noted as an important milestone in the centre’s 53-year history, the works currently under way are the first stage, and will be unveiled in mid-2019, with further stages scheduled for 2023.
“Our vision is the create The New Roselands, a contemporary mall space flanked by leading food retail which will transform the existing dated centre into a culinary destination offering a convenient and authentic fresh food experience inspired by our local community,” said Vicinity Centres’ executive general manager of development, Carolyn Viney.
The first stage of redevelopment will see the fresh food marketplace increase by 2000 square metres and welcome 70 new retailers, with the space redesigned to include five new speciality areas, including a market hall, marketplace, atrium, laneway and pantry, as well as a refurbishment to the centre’s aesthetic, entries and common areas.
Additionally, three major supermarkets will anchor the centre, with Woolworths and Aldi joining the existing Coles.
Viney said the redevelopment would create hundreds of construction jobs, along with ongoing retail and hospitality roles once the centre was complete.
“We know that our centres are increasingly becoming much more than just a retail experience – they have a critical role in enabling the desires people have to be with other people, to meet friends and share experiences together,” Viney said.
“Roselands Shopping Centre has a long, proud history as a local meeting place and vibrant hub in Sydney’s Southwest, and we know the centre’s fresh food offering has played a major role.”
