In the first such collaboration in Australia Snap Print & Design has partnered with design platform Canva to help customers streamline their marketing campaigns.

The partnership will combine the simplicity of Canva’s drag and drop design interface with Snap Print and Design’s expertise in print and speed of production.

Snap CEO Richard Thame told Inside Franchise Business Executive the link with Canva is the first step in a broader move into the digital space for Snap Print.

“The exciting thing is this is a genuine print solution that offers full professional design printing in an offline or online environment. There is a full gamut of options.”

Thame said the bringing together of digital design with a bricks and mortar print business in the Canva partnership allows customers to create a design, visit a Snap centre to check out the work or get advice, or get the finished work delivered.

Previously customers were not always sure their own designs were print ready, said Thame. Now, he added, “We can take that pain away. The files all come fully checked and proofed and it’s a seamless experience.”

He expects new and existing customers to use Snap to extend their design ideas across a variety of print options.

“We can help them apply that design to lots of different types of print – turn it into labels, signboards, into a more integrated campaign,” he said.

As part of the print chain’s digital transformation, which will include an ecommerce platform, Snap will launch a Zoom video consultation process.

“If you want to be on the other end of the screen to see the paper stock, it’s far more convenient.”

Thame said the Canva collaboration is a result of taking stock of the Snap business in 2020.

“We are sticking to what we’re good at, print. [For design] it’s far better to partner with a global organisation like Canva. They talk about democratising design, we’re democratising print.”

Sonia Shwabsky, Snap’s chief growth officer, said the link with the “best design software in the world” helps power up Snap’s move towards a comprehensive ecommerce solution for its printing services.

“The collaboration with Canva supercharges the design phase, delivering a seamless digital design experience for our online community,” she said.

Thame said the shift into multichannel options would also enhance franchisee recruitment.

“We’re attracting high calibre, younger franchisees and one learning out of Covid is that business must be multichannel. We’re seeing a lot of interest, more than for a long time, people are solidifying plans from 2020.”
