Wahlburgers, the burger restaurant chain of Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg, has opened a new location in Queenstown, marking its 112th store globally.
The company has also signalled its expansion plans with new kiosk store formats and a site in “every major city” throughout New Zealand.
The opening of the 60-seat restaurant in Queenstown will benefit South Island food producers with growers from Otago and Canterbury selected to provide fresh produce to the chain.
The site will introduce a breakfast menu, including a breakfast burger and bacon & egg roll, in the coming weeks, said Wahlberg.
“Kiwi customers can expect a dining experience which is all about food, family and fun where we share my family’s delicious recipes brought to life by my brother Chef Paul.”
Wahlberg founded the chain with his brothers Donnie and Paul in 2011.
This is the chain’s second branch in New Zealand, following the opening of the first location in Auckland in March. Both branches are operated by the Mustaca family, founders of United Cinemas.
The company’s CEO Sam Mustaca says he plans to open a further five stores, employ more than 150 local staff and generate millions of dollars in revenue as the business expands throughout the country during the next four years.
There will also be a series of smaller store formats, which occupy less real estate space and have a more streamlined menu. The first of these will be opened in United Cinemas at the Bayfair Shopping Centre in Tauranga in the coming months, Mustaca added.
