New Franchise Council of Australia chairman elected

Warren Ballantyne, founder and managing director of Gutter-Vac Pty Ltd has been appointed chair of the Franchise Council of Australia.

In a communication to FCA members, CEO Mary Aldred said “As current Queensland State President of the FCA and a national board member for the past four years, Warren has been strongly committed and involved in the FCA stepping up to the task of educating franchisors and franchisees to build a strong and successful future for all.

“I am sure Warren’s extensive experience, deep expertise and bounding enthusiasm will be big drivers for him in his new capacity and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with him.”

Ballantyne was elected as chair at the FCA February board meeting. His appointment follows the December 2018 departure of previous chair Bruce Billson, who had been in the role since April 2016.

Former Minister for Small Business, Billson brought parliamentary experience to the executive role.

Ballantyne’s appointment shows a return to franchisors heading up the peak body; franchisors to take up the reins have included Pack & Send CEO Michael Paul and former 7-Eleven chief Warren Wilmot.

The announcement comes just one day before the scheduled release of the findings of the parliamentary inquiry into the effectiveness of the Franchising Code of Conduct. However, the Senate is today considering requests for a further delay in reporting.
