Former Barbeques Galore boss Angus McDonald this month rejoins the automotive aftermarket sector as chief operating and strategy officer for ASX listed group Bapcor Limited.

The group includes the franchised Autobarn and Midas brands, and has more than 5,000 team members across 1,000 locations.

McDonald, who joins Bapcor after almost 18 months as COO with Nick Scali, spent 11 years in leadership roles with SupercheapAuto at Super Retail Group from 2008. He took on the CEO role at Barbeques Galore in 2019.

Bapcor group CEO and managing director, Chris Wilesmith, who officially started in the top job in January 2026, welcomed McDonald to the role.

On LinkedIn he wrote “I was lucky enough to work with Angus for 14 years in SupercheapAuto, a tremendous leader and most importantly a good human.”

Wilesmith said McDonald will “make a big difference for the team and customers”.
