A NSW Government rebate has driven a 244 per cent increase in Swimart customers replacing single-speed pool pumps with energy efficient variable-speed models compared with the same period last year.
Bill Clark, franchise owner and operator of Swimart Mona Vale said there has been a significant impact on the business.
“This is the largest rebate we have ever been able to offer customers on a pool pump, and it has clearly influenced their decision to upgrade. Customers can see how the upfront saving and lower running costs may reduce the payback period to two years or, in some cases, even less,” Clark said.
“Over the comparable four-month period, our variable-speed pump installations increased by sixfold across Sydney’s Northern Beaches. That has delivered meaningful additional revenue, as well as associated installation and service work.
“The financial return has been rewarding but so has helping customers reduce their energy use and ongoing pool operating costs. It creates a positive outcome for the customer, our business and the wider community,” he said.
All 29 NSW Swimart stores and the network’s mobile technicians completed specialist training to support the initiative, enabling customers to access informed advice, professional installation and the rebate through their local pool care provider.
Swimart Rouse Hill owners Peter and Megan Morris were among the first franchisees to complete the training, alongside their son Michael and daughter-in-law Taylor, who own nearby Swimart Richmond.
“The rebate gets people’s attention, but the training is just as important,” Peter Morris said. “It gives pool professionals the confidence to explain the energy savings and help customers see the bigger picture.”
For the multi-generational Swimart family, the initiative also reflects a shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
“Anything we can do to reduce energy use and help people run their pools more efficiently is positive,” Morris said.
The program brings together the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), Waterco, Electric Future, Swimart and OnPoint Compliance.
