US-based square-burger chain Wendy’s has opened a landmark restaurant, the 500th in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA) region.

Long-term franchisee Wendy’s Japan K.K. owns and operates the Nagano, Japan, restaurant.

Chris Conway, SVP, managing director, APMEA, at The Wendy’s Company said “We are building a high performing, differentiated QSR brand in the region serving our iconic fresh famous food. This achievement reflects the unwavering support, passion and commitment of our franchise partners, like Wendy’s Japan K.K., who play a key role in the brand’s success.

“Together with our franchisees, Wendy’s is positioned to drive continued growth across APMEA, while accelerating expansion around the globe.”

The burger brand recently celebrated its 160th restaurant opening in India, and has development agreements for new restaurants to open this year in Romania, Scotland, and Ireland.

Last month the brand unveiled its first Australian location for four decades. The Gold Coast restaurant is the first of a planned 200 outlets led by master franchisee the Flynn Restaurant Group, which also holds the licence for Pizza Hut in Australia.
