Lottery Corporation appoints new MD, CEO

The Lottery Corporation has appointed Wayne Pickup as its incoming managing director and CEO.

Pickup will not join the company until 24 November 2025 and will assume the leadership roles after regulatory approvals.

The new CEO will be based in Brisbane and succeeds Sue van der Merwe who will retire after a 35-year career in lotteries.

Pickup brings 25 years of international lotteries experience. He was most recently CEO of global lottery operator Allwyn’s North American operations for seven years. Before that Pickup was CEO of Lotto New Zealand.

Chairman of The Lottery Corporation, Dr Doug McTaggart, said “Having held senior leadership roles in technology, product management and game management, Wayne brings a diverse skill set and understanding of high-performing lotteries businesses. He is a high-calibre appointment who takes over from Sue at an exciting time for The Lottery Corporation, its shareholders and its customers.”

Brands within the group include The Lott by Tatts, NSW Lotteries, Golden Casket and SA Lotteries.
