A new San Churro CEO has been appointed as founder and current CEO Giro Maurici steps into a new role as  managing director.

‘It is with much excitement that I announce the appointment of Kerri Wane as my successor to the
role of CEO of San Churro,” Maurici said.

“Kerri brings a wide and unique range of experience that qualifies her for the role, spending time as a multi-unit franchise partner with Domino’s and growing through a variety of senior franchising, retail and QSR leadership roles in Australia and India, with brands such as Domino’s, Mad Mex and Gelatissimo.”

Wane, who was named in the top ten of the Top 30 Franchise Executives 2021, spent a couple of years with Mad Mex before joining Gelatissimo in January this year as the GM of International & USA.

In the nine months with the ice cream chain Wane said she had realised some international growth in the face of very challenging circumstances.

“India has recently opened two new stores, with imminent growth now on the horizon in Singapore, Saudi and the US. This is a testament to the commitment and resilience of Gelatissimo’ s master franchise partners and the partnership we have built,” she said.

With a focus on Gelatissimo being a great retailer, Wane said “I am proud that we have moved the needle, particularly in the areas of network engagement and operational execution.”

In her new role as CEO at San Churro, delivering profitable, sustainable network growth will be crucial, Wane told Inside Franchise Business Executive.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Giro as he moves into the MD role. My job is to ensure that our existing Australian network is thriving. This will allow Giro to take a step back from the day to day and focus on horizon two and three growth opportunities.

“This will accelerate great outcomes for San Churro as the focus on our core business will be maintained, whilst proactively working towards an exciting future state.”

Maurici will spend time with Wane in the initial transition period before his official move to the
managing director position to maintain focus on the company’s bigger picture.

In his four years as CEO at San Churro, Maurici has overseen a period of restructuring, with the brand taking home the FCA Established Franchisor of the Year award in 2019.

“We are at a pivotal time in the business where we see great opportunity to take our brand to the
next level, but ensuring we do this in a way that doesn’t lose focus on the existing business is
paramount. This new structure is providing us with the opportunity to do just that,” Maurici said.

Wane will start in her new role on the 27 September with a view to move back to Melbourne as
soon as possible to lead the team.
