Technology company Shippit has teamed up with Uber to launch one-hour shipping in Australia.
Although one-hour delivery is hugely popular with grocery supplies, it is a first for Australian fashion retailers to offer patrons delivery within such a limited time window. The one-of-a-kind partnership will use Shippit’s software to access more than 50,000 delivery partners across the country.
Orders booked on Shippit have increased by 234 per cent in the past year. Shippit’s retailers will now be able to offer their customers an Uber delivery option at checkout. Customers will also be able to view estimated arrival time, delivery notes on their packages, and access real-time tracking using Uber’s GPS.
Initial partner retailers include Cue and Shippit already works with national retailers including Big W, Harvey Norman and Jo Mercer, although it is unclear if they are included in this initiative.
“Until now, Australian retailers haven’t had the ability to ship direct to customers within the hour, and retailers that didn’t meet consumer expectations for same-day or even next-hour delivery were at a competitive disadvantage,” said Shippit’s co-CEO Rob Hango-Zada.
Regional GM retail, Uber Eats ANZ, Lucas Groeneveld said that this is a “big leap forward” for Australian merchants.
“The partnership will integrate Uber’s Direct for enterprise offering within Shippit’s software to help accelerate a new industry standard,” he added.
According to Future of Delivery Report 2022, in the next five years, Asia Pacific will be the largest regional parcels market by value, accounting for around 42 per cent of a global market.
