The inaugural World Franchise Day was held on 11 June with international franchise associations from as far afield as the UK, Canada, the US, India, South Africa, Malaysia and the Philippines ramping up the message that franchising is all about small business.

The Franchise Council of Australia encouraged local participation to promote the benefits and role of franchising in the community. Brands such as Gutter-Vac, Kip McGrath and Pack & Send took to social media to spread the word.

FCA CEO Jay Westbury said “Franchising is a $173 billion sector that supports over 500,000 jobs and 90,000 small businesses across the country. With more than 1,200 franchise networks operating nationally spanning industries such as restaurants, accommodation, services, retail, healthcare, wellness, transport and logistics, franchising plays a vital role in Australia’s business landscape.

“World Franchise Day is a chance to celebrate these businesses and the people behind them – our franchisees, franchisors, and employees who make an incredible impact on our communities.

“Australia is full of Franchise Heroes who go above and beyond and who capture the entrepreneurial and community spirit the franchising model supports,” he said.

Westbury highlighted Michelle Price, chief commercial officer of InXpress Asia Pacific, whose team nominated her as a #FranchiseHero.

“In nominating her, one team member said ‘I’ve worked in franchising for over 20 years, and I have never reported to a better boss!  She is empathic, strategic and leads our franchise to ensure our franchisees’ success whilst building a robust work culture to inspire others.'”
