Chicken chain Chargrill Charlie’s is celebrating native foods and connection to country for National Reconciliation Week.
The Craveable Brands business has partnered with Corey Grech, a proud Gamilaraay and Wonnarua man and founder of Native Botanical Brewery, to create a limited-edition Bush Myrtle Crunch Salad for its Marrickville, Sydney, store.
This initiative forms part of Craveable Brands’ commitment to reconciliation through its second Reconciliation Action Plan. This reinforces the company and Chargrill Charlie’s commitment to elevating First Nations voices, promoting tangible action towards reconciliation and fostering meaningful local-first collaborations.
Kathryn Farnell is Craveable Brands’ chief people officer and executive sponsor of Reconciliation.
“With presence across regional and remote Australian communities in addition to metropolitan areas, our network of Australian food brands and restaurant operators play an important role in local neighbourhoods,” Farnell said.
Local collaborations are part of the brand’s reconciliation commitment
“We take seriously the impact we can have on employment and social connection, and that is the driving force behind our commitment to reconciliation.
“Local collaborations like this are a great example of how we bring our reconciliation commitment to life through something that unites us all – food,” she added.
Grech has 17 years of experience in the Australian native bush food industry, and is a neighbourhood local.
“The ingredients we used to create Bush Myrtle Crunch are native foods from the oldest living culture in the world and that’s pretty meaningful,” Corey said. “It’s been great to come back to Marrickville and share my passion for native foods with Chargrill Charlie’s and the local community – I hope everyone loves tasting a bit of history and a bit of home.”
Chargrill Charlie’s Marrickville store customers can enjoy the bush tucker salad from 27 May until 3 June.
