A Donut King mobile business model has been unveiled by multi-brand franchisor Retail Food Group, delivering a lower entry level for would-be franchisees.

It’s the latest initiative from the hospitality group which has focused its attentions on a turnaround strategy over the past three years under turnaround expert Peter George.

Kellie Cranch, GM partner development, said the new business concept was trialled in various regions with existing franchisees.

It’s now ready for a rollout with the initial 12 month plan to sign up more than 30 vans and existing franchisees may be among the new signings, she said.

“This is an option that could complement our existing franchisees who would like to branch out and add events, or a mobile option to their existing Donut King businesses.

“We are also expecting a lot of new interest, from people who want to be out on the road, being in charge of their own destiny.”

The investment level is set at $139,000 + GST with normal franchise service fees applying, and an incentive for early birds.

“As a launch bonus we are offering $2000 worth of coffee beans and we have a sales revenue guarantee for the first two weeks of trade,” Cranch said.

With lockdowns still in full force in some regions across Australia, the challenge of opening up new businesses continues, and Donut King has had to consider different ways to facilitate training over the Covid period.

“In an ideal world we would like the new Donut King franchisees to train here on the Gold Coast in our new training facility at Miami,” said Cranch.

“If the franchisee lives in an area where travel is restricted, we will find an alternative way to train them close to their home.”
