F45 Training has its sights set on growing its South African footprint, signing a master franchise agreement with Functional Fitness South Africa (FFSA) in Johannesburg.

According to athletechnews.com, the new master franchisee already operates two of the 13 studios in South Africa.

F45 Training CEO Tom Dowd said the business is confident with this new deal it can reach new heights and provide more opportunities for franchisees.

The F45 brand has had a rollercoaster ride the last few years since it floated on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021.

It has undergone a variety of headline-making events including its voluntary delisting and financial losses. The turmoil surrounding the US-business continues to reverberate internationally, with numerous F45 studios in Australia closing down.

In April the functional fitness franchisor settled a long-running sponsorship dispute with David Beckham. Beckham’s venture capital firm, DB Ventures Limited, remains an investor in the functional fitness brand.

F45 is also broadening its portfolio with its FS8 and Vaura Pilates brands.
