The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s release of Australia’s first National Small Business Strategy.

Federal, state and territory governments collaborated on the strategy which aims to raise small businesses in government decision-making; complement existing work within jurisdictions; and inform policy-making to deliver better outcomes for small businesses.

FCA CEO Jay Westbury said the FCA strongly supports a nationally coordinated approach that elevates small business in government decision-making.

“The National Small Business Strategy is a welcome step in recognising the critical role of small businesses in Australia’s economy, and franchising is a vital part of this ecosystem.”

Nearly 2.6 million small businesses contribute $590 billion to the economy and employ more than 5.4 million Australians.

“We support efforts to improve coordination across governments to reduce barriers and create an environment where small businesses — including franchises — can continue to innovate and grow.

“The FCA is committed to ensuring that the voices of franchisees and franchisors are heard in this process, and we look forward to working collaboratively with policymakers to drive positive outcomes for the sector,” he said.
