Plus Fitness has hit a mega milestone with the opening of its 200th club across Australia and New Zealand, 10 years after launching in to the 24 hour gym market.
The latest addition to the growing brand is Plus Fitness Ryde and there are a further 45 territories sold and at various stages of opening.
Plus Fitness director Gordon Martin joined the business in April this year, tasked with growing the chain to more than 300 studios.
Martin said of the latest milestone, “We’re excited to expand the network of health clubs, with a strong pipeline of Plus Fitness franchises to open in near future.”
Over the past decade the brand has developed across Australia, New Zealand, India and East Timor.
In 2020 ASX listed Viva Leisure Limited acquired the gym chain which now sits with other brands in the portfolio such as Club Lime and Hiit Republic.
In May 2021 Viva Leisure hit the media spotlight with Plus Fitness franchisees’ claims that a new clause in the franchise agreement leaves existing franchise operators vulnerable to competitors.
In a statement to the ASX at the time Viva Leisure said it is “confident that it and its group companies are dealing with franchising appropriately and in accordance with the law”.
Last year as gyms reemerged from the initial Covid lockdown, Plus Fitness reported a rise of 11 per cent in membership numbers.
Plus Fitness now is reporting a network-wide turnover of more than $100m within an industry that boasts over $2.2 billion in revenue annually.
