Pool and spa specialist Swimart is calling for government clarity on pool services during lockdown and warning Melburnians of the dangers of failing to keep pool water properly chlorinated.
Swimart’s national advisory committee representative Tony Arbidans said “Pools and spas rely on chemical supplies to keep them safe and hygienic as well as ongoing maintenance of sanitation equipment to ensure they operate correctly. ”
Swimart’s call is backed by the industry’s peak body – the Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) –
which says the state’s residential pools and spas may become a public health risk if they are not
properly serviced and maintained.
“Despite repeated requests to government to provide clarity, 370,000 residential pools and spas may become a public health risk if they are not allowed to be service and maintained. We do not want to replace one virus for another,” said SPASA COO Spiros Dassakis.
“Chemical deliveries are critical to keeping swimming pools and spas safe, and they should continue to
operate as an ‘essential service’ during mandatory closures.”
Co-owner of Swimart Mornington, Jordan Bedson, said “We have found that pools and spas are getting a lot more use during lockdown and the concern is that if these pools and spas are not being maintained, the potential health risks can be severe.”
At the start of the lockdown franchisors across the mobile services sector expressed disappointment at the lack of clarity over which mobile services could continue to operate.
