Wings and Tins has opened its first franchise, a chicken wings and tinned beer restaurant in Newcastle, New South Wales.

The restaurant concept combines an extensive chicken wings menu with craft beers in a dive-bar setting.

Founders Anthony MacFarlane and Alfredo Perez came up with the idea after meeting in Mexico on a surfing trip. The pair developed and launched the concept with a restaurant in Darlinghurst, then in Northern Beaches’ Dee Why.

In 2021 the pair decided to franchise the bespoke chicken wings brand.

MacFarlane said “Franchising was the natural next step for our brand that we’ve become extremely proud of. Not just because of its unique and super fun offering, but because it offers simple systems and comparatively low barriers to entry allowing passionate operators a great opportunity.”

Accurate Franchising Inc. (AFI), an affiliated franchise consultancy of global franchisor United Franchise Group, was tasked with the franchise development.

MacFarlane said “AFI have helped us systemise our processes and create fantastic manuals for prospective franchisees.”

Julian Chong, director of Accurate Franchising Inc. Australia, believes the niche business has plenty of potential.

“It’s a truly unique concept with a real cult following in Sydney which will no doubt translate across other cities and states in Australia. It’s an incredibly attractive business model and one that will tick a lot of boxes for investors.”

The new restaurant brand will begin recruiting more franchisees when it showcases the business at the Sydney Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo in August 2022.

MacFarlane and Perez aim to open three franchises within 12 months, with a focus on Sydney metro opportunities.
