The second edition of the Australian Franchise Outlook reveals the intent of the current crop of franchise buyers, with 70 per cent having clear designs on purchasing a franchise within a year. Almost a third are ready to invest within six months.

An exclusive buyer survey presents original data on how ready franchise buyers are with capital, and what industries and investment levels they are interested in.

There are no surprises with the two key drivers for franchise prospects – wanting more control over work and life balance, and the desire to be their own boss, the same as last year.

What has changed is their focus; rather than seeing the reassurance and security that a franchise model brings as the main attraction, today’s franchise buyers are inspired by the opportunity it represents.

The AFO report also highlights the barriers and concerns that give potential franchisees cause for hesitation.

What consumers think

Customer survey research conducted for Franchise Executives explores the end user’s perspective. It examined shifts in brand advocacy, consumer trust and the pathways people take into franchising.

These data-driven insights reveal a shift in attitude towards franchising, with a softening in goodwill and advocacy – the latter showing the sharpest decline in the study, with significantly more detractors (45.9 per cent) than last year.

The analyses of prospective buyers and consumers together in one report, alongside performance benchmarks and practical strategies from Australia’s leading franchisors, gives the industry a clear view of the market as it plans for 2027.
