The distinctive red and white branding of US burger chain Five Guys will be gracing Sydney’s CBD when Australia’s second outlet opens mid 2022.
Australia and New Zealand master franchisee Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group has revealed the location will be in George Street, Sydney, in a pedestrian concourse between George and York Street, in a heritage listed building. Penrith is the site of the US burger brand’s first Aussie store– it opened in September 2021.
Seagrass has ambitious plans to open additional sites throughout 2022 in Sydney and Melbourne in premium locations.
The Aussie business manages and owns more than 50 restaurants in Australia, United Arab Emirates, South Africa and the UK. Brands under the company portfolio include The Meat & Wine Co, 6HEAD, Hunter & Barrel, Ribs & Burgers, Italian Street Kitchen.
The Five Guys brand offers customers all-American favourites including freshly made in-house and fresh-to order burgers. The company started as a family business in Washington D.C. in 1986; in 2003, the business began franchising and has since expanded to more than 1700 locations in 24 countries.
Fellow American burger chain Carl’s Jr., which launched in Australia in 2016, now has more than 30 locations here. In 2021 a new master franchise agreement set out expansion plans for the business, which globally has more than 3,800 sites in more than 42 countries.
Wahlburgers, the fast food chain started by Hollywood A-lister Mark Wahlberg, opened its first store here early 2022, a little behind its scheduled pre-Christmas 2021 deadline. The burger business has more than 50 outlets in the US, Canada, Germany and Australia.
Australia continues to attract US food brands – the most recent chain looking to step into the region is Duck Donuts, which exhibited at the Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo in Melbourne, seeking master franchisees.
