Mister Minit is a quiet achiever in the retail space, trading since 1957 with a clear business ethos based around problem solving.
Mister Minit provides household and personal services such as shoe repairs, key duplication, engraving, watch servicing, and sharpening.
Today there are more than 370 stores across Australia and New Zealand and the brand has a presence in Singapore and Malaysia.
It’s a brand that breeds loyalty: former CEO Mark Rusbatch had a long tenure as CEO (23 years) and is now chair of Minit Oceana and South East Asia; current CEO Maria Walton who took on the role in 2023 has already notched up 23 years with the chain.
So what is the secret to Mister Minit’s success? Walton believes it starts with a simple pride in fixing things.
In a Franchise Business podcast Walton discusses the elements that have kept Mister Minit on top form over the years: the importance of continuity, the need for innovation, and those essential one-percenters that help propel the business.
Walton brought an HR background to the brand, and that has helped shape her focus on people, she says.
“I have a passion for bringing the best out in people and I’m a true believer of this, that the capability, the performance, the motivation and the productivity of our people is a critical success factor,” she says.
