McDonald’s Australia will open 11 new stores in the next two months, mostly in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. These outlets will add to the eight new restaurants opened already in 2022 in New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.

The burger chain has also announced it will reinvest in 80 existing restaurants before the end of the year.

Overall the growth is expected to inject more than $130 million into the Australian economy.

David Howse, chief support officer, McDonald’s Australia, said  “Every new restaurant injects approximately $5 million into the local economy and creates 100 jobs during construction and a further 120 jobs once the restaurant is operational.

“We are focused on opening new restaurants in residential growth corridors that are close to transport and infrastructure in both metro and regional locations.”

New stores designed to reduce environmental impact

Howse said most new outlets will include a McCafe, digital ordering kiosks, dual lane drive-thru and McDelivery partner rooms.

McDonalds is reducing its environmental impact when building new restaurants. LED lighting, solar panels, heat recovery water systems and recycled content for wheel stops and floor tiles are typical inclusions.

“The restaurants we have opened to date have received an extremely positive response from the local community, which makes us excited for our plans to continue to invest across the country,” Howse said.

The brand new restaurants already opened this year feature enhanced design, efficiency and functionality for a better customer experience.

New restaurants and renovations will generate at least 4,000 new jobs for people in construction and restaurant roles.

Restaurant roles include a variety of full-time, part-time and casual jobs in management, crew, barista and maintenance. McDonald’s invests more than $40 million in employee training and development initiatives each year.

Just last month the fast food chain unveiled an online game as a recruitment tool to help fill thousands of vacancies across its 1,025 restaurants.
