Australian boutique fitness chain UBX [pronounced u-box] is edging into 24/7 territory with the launch of its new Extended Access capacity which enables members the opportunity to train outside staffed gym hours.

The move is designed to enhance member experience and significantly bolster member retention and franchise revenue through increased yield, conversions, capacity and demand.

The new system with front-door tap access has already rolled out across about 30 per cent of the network.

UBX co-founder, Tim West, said “Due to high staff costs, most boutique gyms open for a morning and afternoon shift during the week and a Saturday morning shift on the weekend, meaning they’re actually shut more than they’re open.

“We knew members would train more regularly if they had more access to the gym, so we created a system that can deliver a highly engaging and effective workout even outside of staffed hours. And the more that we can continue expanding on the value we give to our members, we know the more likely we are to retain them and nurture strong advocates of our brand.”

UBX gyms can choose to be open 16 to 24 hours of the day. This allows franchisees to determine what works best for their business.

For example, gyms can choose to allow members entry from 4am through to 9pm. Where previously they may only have been open from 5:30am-10:30am, then again at 4:30pm-7:30pm.

This year UBX has expanded into four new countries and is looking to reach its goal of 500 gyms within five years. It opened in the UK in April, and launched in Japan this winter.

UBX also signed a global partnership with Adidas Combat Sports.
